More about the GYROTONIC® Method

The Gyrotonic method (developed by Juliu Horvath) is an original and unique fitness program which has roots in yoga, tai-chi, eastern philosophy and dance. Gyrotonic exercises are performed on specially designed equipment made to work with the human frame. The movement sequences are composed of spiraling, circular movements, which flow together seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions, with corresponding breath. With Gyrotonic exercises, each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. Muscles and connective tissues are strengthened and lengthened providing a regenerative and protective effect, particularly in the spinal column.
Specialized Equipment
The body is designed to work as one harmonious system, to follow arcing and spiraling pathways of motion, and to transition from one movement to the next smoothly and efficiently. Juliu Horvath, creator of Gyrotonic, designed a specialized line of equipment around these natural movement patterns. The five pieces of equipment used in Gyrotonic exercise sessions have a unique design which provides constant resistance to eliminate the jarring found in conventional exercise equipment.
